Marjorie Whatley Funchess
Mother of Classmate Jeff Whatley

Mrs. Funchess passed away on August 12, 2010.  She was a longtime resident of Lee County and taught school in the local school systems for more than 35 years, mostly at Beauregard School and Scott Preparatory School.  She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a EAMC Volunteer for many years.  She is survived by her three sons, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Sister In-Law of Classmate Loretta Young Lee

Mrs. Young passed away August 13, 2010 at Bethany House.  She is survived by a daughter, son and four granddaughters and two great grandsons.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Opelika.

Clifton Ray Walton, Sr
Brother of Charlene Walton Young (1952 Classmate)

 Clifton Ray Walton, Sr., age 86, died at Doctor's Hospice in Fayetteville, GA on July 25th. The cause of death was complications following surgery for colon cancer. Originally from Salisbury, NC, he lived in Opelika and Salem, AL for 50 years. In recent years, he has lived in Clarksville, GA, Salisbury, NC and was residing in Union City, GA .
 He was preceded in death by his sister Charlene Walton Young in 007.

Miss Mary Louise Collins
Miss Collins was our classmate Mabry Collins' sister.

Graveside service for Mary Louise Collins, 77 of Birmingham is Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 2:00p.m. in Garden Hills Cemetery. Reverend Steve Scoggins is officiating. Miss Collins was born January 27, 1933 in Escambia County, and died May 17, 2010 at Trinity Medical Center Medical Center in Birmingham. She was a longtime resident of Opelika, and had been a resident of Birmingham since 1954. She had worked 40 years as a Medical Technologist in Birmingham at University Hospital and Baptist Medical Center Montclair. Miss Collins was a member of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Josh and Louise Collins of Opelika. Survivors include her brother, Mabry A. (Patricia) Collins, Jr. of Hamilton, GA; nephew, Michael L. (Denise) Collins of Atlanta, GA; niece, Stephanie L. Collins of Atlanta, GA; and two great nieces, McKenna and Marin Collins of Atlanta, GA. 


I received word from Tom Bankston, Jack's Son, that Jack has passed away in Mobile, Alabama.  the scheduled Burial will be on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 2:30 PM at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, 533 HWY 165, Fort Mitchell, AL 36858.  Phone 334-855-4731.   Military honors are held only with the family present.
For those of you that do attend, please let me know.  I still do not have a copy of the Obiturary...but am trying to get a copy
Wildflowers will be planted to celebrate his life.  A notification (card) will be sent to his Son.

Billie Simpson Hudmon, Class of 1952

BILLIE SIMPSON HUDMON 1934-2010 Funeral services for Mrs. Hudmon, 75, of Auburn, will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 22, 2010 at Fredericks Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Terry Herron officiating. Burial will follow at Auburn Memorial Park. Visitation for Mrs. Hudmon will be held from 5 - 7 PM on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Fredericks Funeral Home. Mrs. Hudmon was born on April 16, 1934 to the late John and Nella Mae Simpson and passed away on January 18, 2010. Mrs. Hudmon is survived by one son, Andy Hudmon (Karen), two daughters: Pamella Hudmon (Nan Hornady) and Sonya Green (Terry), two grandchildren: Michelle Price and Matthew Green, one great grandchild, Slade Price, a very special uncle, James Duke, and one aunt, Betty Jo McAdory. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Lee County Humane Society, 1140 Ware Drive Auburn, AL 36832 or Storybook Farm, Inc., 300 Cusseta Road Opelika, AL 36801. Fredericks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
