The 'ice house' was located on 10th Street just before crossing the railroad tracks.  This was before the new bridge was built over the railroad tracks.  I think it was torn down when the bridge was built.  I don't remember the exact date the bridge was constructed........if you know, please let me know.

Many folks stopped by each day to buy ice, for whatever reason....one that I know of...when I-85 was being constructed the road work crews would go by each day and fill their coolers with ice to keep their water and lunches cold.  It got pretty hot out on the roadway during the day and the crews could not leave to get something cold, so they had to take it with them when they reported for work.

I don't know how many years the ice house existed, but I suspect it was in operation for many years.........especially in the old days when 'ice boxes' were in use in the homes.  The residents could stop by and pick up the ice or it would be delivered to the neighborhoods.

(More to come on this site)............
